Actor, author, adaptor and director, Sébastien Azzopardi is the author of many theatrical successes.

His most recent work, Ma version de l’histoire, premiered at Théâtre Michel in January 2024.

With Sacha Danino, Sébastien Azzopardi is behind L’embarras du choix, premiered in October 2020 at the Théâtre de la Gaîté Montparnasse and still running in 2024, Chapitre XIII, a theatrical thriller which won the Best Visual Creation prize at the 2019 Molières, The lady in white, which won three Molière nominations in 2016, including for Best Director of a Private Theatre Production; Coup de théâtre(s), which premiered at the Théâtre de la Gaîté Montparnasse in June 2014; Mission Florimont, nominated for Best Comedy Play at the 2010 Molières; and Around the World in 80 Days. This four-handed adaptation of Jules Verne’s famous novel, directed by Sébastien Azzopardi, was a rare success and ran for over 15 years. It won the 2006 Prix Charles Oulmont (Compagnie Sébastien Azzopardi), a nomination for the 2006 Prix Raimu de la Comédie (Mise en Scène), and the 2007 Prix du Public at the Festival d’Anjou. The play will be revived at the Théâtre de la Tour Eiffel in 2019.

In 2011, they adapted the cult American play Shear Madness by Marilyn Abrams and Bruce Jordan, based on the work by Paul Pörtner, under the title Dernier coup de ciseaux. The play premiered at the Théâtre des Mathurins and, like L’embarras du choix, Mission Florimont and Le Tour du monde en 80 jours, enjoyed an exceptionally long run. It won the Molière in 2014 in the Best Comedy category and has been performed over 3,500 times to date. They are also adapting Oh my god! by Robert Askins, performed at the Théâtre Tristan Bernard in 2017.

Previously, Sébastien Azzopardi directed Musset’s Les caprices de Marianne and adapted and performed Woody Allen’s Puzzle, based on Second Hand Memory. He directed and performed Oscar Wilde’s Lady Windermere’s Fan. This show received 5 nominations at the 2007 Molières, including Best Public Theatre Show.

He wrote the adaptation Devinez qui ? based on Agatha Christie’s Dix petits nègres, which was nominated for a 2004 Molière for Best Adaptation.

His play Les Classiques contre-attaquent is an adaptation of La Fontaine’s Fables, Rabelais’ Gargantua and Voltaire’s Candide. He wrote, directed and performed it.
