
Cărbunariu Gianina
Gianina Cărbunariu is a Romanian based director and playwright.
Since 2017 she is the general director of Teatrul Tineretului and curator for the International Festival in Piatra Neamț Romania. For her fictional performances, she usually does research through interviews or studies different archives on topics concerning nowadays social and political subjects, but also themes connected with the Romanian and European recent past.
She works as a director and playwright with Romanian state theatres such as Odeon Theatre, National Theatre in Sibiu, Mic Theatre, Excelsior Theatre in Bucharest, but also with other theater institutions in Europe such as Kammerspiele Theatre in Munich, Schauspiel in Stuttgart, Centro Dramatico Nacional in Madrid, Contemporary Theatre in Sczczecin (Poland), Teatro Delle Passioni in Modena. In 2014, the performance Solitaritate (text and directing) was produced by National Theatre in Sibiu, Avignon Festival and National Theatre in Brussels and it was presented in the official selection of Avignon Festival. In 2016, the performance Tigern based on her text was produced by the Swedish company Jupither Josepson in Royal Dramatic of Stockholm it was and presented in the official selection of Avignon festival.
Her plays were translated in different languages and produced by other directors in different theatres in Europe, USA, Canada etc. „Kebab” was produced by Royal Court in London, in Schaubuhene Berlin, Kammerspiele Munich, in other theatres in Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Turkey, Italy, Belgium, France, Spain, Danemark, Japan. Her play Stop the Tempo was translated 10 languages and produced in Germany, France, Austria, Turkey, Switzerland, Chile, USA, Israel, Canada. The play Tiger was produced in Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm, in Hungary, France, Germany. The plays Stop the Tempo, Kebab, Solitaritate and Tiger are published in France by Actes Sud.
